The BSA Mission and Vision The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
As a BSA affiliate, the Troop's purpose is to provide for youth an effective program that offers responsible fun and adventure, helps to build desirable qualities of character, and trains in the responsibilities of leadership, service, and participatory citizenship. Parental Involvement Just as each boy's progress and his desire to stay with the scouting program is dependent on the support and encouragement he receives at home, the Troop - which relies on volunteers - depends on parental support and encouragement. Troop 1324 requests that each scout's parent or guardian camp out with the Troop at least once each year and help out with transportation or other physical support as needed. Parent meetings and Courts of Honor are scheduled semi-annually, and committee meetings (at which parents can learn about Troop plans) are held on the first Monday of each month. Parents also may share personal and professional experiences through service as Merit Badge Counselors. Meetings Meetings are held on the second, third, and fourth Monday of each month, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Community (the first Monday is reserved for the patrol leaders meeting). Meeting dates are adjusted for holidays and the Klein Independent School District calendar. Troop events are scheduled throughout the school year, with additional activities during the summer. Activities The primary Troop activity is camping out, which occurs at least one weekend each month from September through May. Most campsites are at Texas state parks or area Boy Scout camps. The Troop provides tents, dining canopies, lanterns, chuck boxes, cooking utensils (including propane stoves), and other group items. The scout is responsible for his personal gear, including a sleeping bag. The Troop also spends one full week during the summer at one of the camps owned and operated by a BSA council, such as El Rancho Cima near San Marcos, Texas, Camp Wehinapay near Sacramento, New Mexico, or Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch near Toyahvale, Texas. In addition to camping, the Troop provides the means for each boy to earn six rank advancements from Tenderfoot to Eagle Scout, and over 120 merit badges in a wide variety of subjects. The Troop also participates in the annual Scout Fair, in festivals and projects for St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Community, and in other community service projects. Costs An annual registration fee of $30 is required each January, and semi-annual dues of $25 are required each March and September. Purchase of scout uniforms is the responsibility of each scout. Food and transportation for monthly camping activities is normally $15 to $20 per weekend trip. Summer camp costs, which vary, also are the responsibility of the scout. Fund raisers - such as popcorn, flower, or bake sales - are held twice each year.
